Virtual Avenue of Honour

The Virtual Avenue of Honour (VAOH) is a charitable initiative created to honour and commemorate the service of military personnel, past and present. It recognises the men and women who served their country, and the lasting contribution they made through duty, sacrifice, and commitment.

A central aim of VAOH is to preserve and share personal histories. Each profile brings together biographies, photographs, documents, and archival records to tell an individual story—helping people understand history through real lives rather than just dates and battles.

VAOH also seeks to connect service with place. Many veterans lived ordinary lives in ordinary neighbourhoods before and after their service. By linking stories to the towns, streets, schools, and communities they came from, the project helps people see how national history is rooted in local experience.

To achieve this, VAOH creates and maintains both digital and physical memorial systems. These include online profiles, videos, and QR-code plaques that can be placed at memorials, schools, or former homes, allowing stories to be accessed easily by students, families, and the wider public.

The organisation also works to raise funds to support current and former service personnel, veterans, and their families. This support reflects the belief that remembrance should include care for those who continue to live with the effects of service.

Education and community engagement are key goals of the Virtual Avenue of Honour. The project encourages learning, reflection, and discussion, helping people of all ages understand military history and its impact. Through this work, VAOH promotes civic values of service, honour, responsibility, and shared memory.
